WHK Coffey Davidson – Office Relocation

As part of a joint project with commercial property developers Wallace Development, Dougan Larkworthy Team Architects provided design and documentation services to assist in the relocation and expansion of WHK Coffey Davidson.  The move was from the former iconic headquarters of New Zealand Aerial Mapping in Hastings into a totally renovated and reconstructed building.

This presented a challenging task in trying to fit a commercial office complex into a set of buildings purpose-built in the 1940s for photography processing. The original building featured a window-less ground floor and as a result required substantial redevelopment of the structure.

With the addition of a modern frontage and reception area, as well as the extensive reconfiguration and liberation of the former main building, a light and spacious working and meeting environment has been created for the WHK team of accountants, support staff and clients.

The design recognised the historical importance of NZ Aerial Mapping to Hastings, and consequently the scheme has retained and enhanced essential characteristics of the former complex.
